Mumbai, May 24: Pune and Mumbai South West emerged champions, winning the girls and boys’ (level-1) titles respectively in the 32nd Maharashtra State Inter-District Youth (boys & girls) Basketball Championship, organised by the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) and played at the Police Gymkhana courts.

In the girl’s final, Pune recorded a hard-earned 67-62 victory against Nagpur. Shruti Sherigar and Siddhi Kothavale combined effectively scoring 26 and 15 points respectively which helped Pune clinch the final by a close margin. For the Nagpur team, Shreya Dandekar (21 points) and Smruti Iyer (10) were the main scorers.

The boy’s final also witnessed an interesting tussle for supremacy between Mumbai South West and Mumbai South East. But the brilliance of Qureshi Sameer, who led from the front and found the hoop consistently in scoring 37 points titled the contest in favour of Mumbai South West, winning by a 68-58 margin. Mumbai South East put up a good fight with Fauzan Shaik (17) and Hamdan Musa (12) being the principle scorers.

In the Level-2 finals, Dhule defeated Aurangabad by a very narrow 47-45 margin for the girl’s title, while Washim tamed Amravati 56-36 to claim the top honours among boys.

Result (finals) – Girls’ level 2: Dhule (Vaishnavi H. 13, Sonal Marathe 12) bt Aurangabad (Vedika M. 17, Sanjan J. 12) 47-45.

Level 1: Pune (Shruti Sherigar 26, Siddhi Kothavale 15) bt Nagpur (Shreya Dandekar 21, Smruti Iyer 10) 67-62.

Boys’ level 2: Washim (D. Nakhale 11, J. Kadam 10) bt Amravati (Pratik Shinde 11, Shubam Akulwar 8) 53-36.

Level 1: Mumbai South West (Qureshi Sameer 37, Khan Faisal 8) bt Mumbai South East (Fauzan Shaik 17, Hamdan Musa 12) 68-58.
